On the same day in the late 1970s, our founders, Mel and Patricia, unknowingly quit their jobs. Guided by a desire for escape, the couple moved and found their new home in Mill Valley. The Bay Area gave them a fresh start and an inspiration that wove their love of adventure into what would become Banana Republic.

 

This October, we are paying homage to these roots and reflecting on both our history and those who have shared it with us. As we travel across the California coast, we look back at the textures, fabrics and designs held in our archives to give you a piece of history. A carefully crafted blend of authentic and long-lasting travel wear that will be a part of your own stories as much as ours.
